The violin resembles the human body, with a front aspect, a backside, shoulders and a neck. It is a good idea to know the design of the violin before or while you take beginner violin lessons. At the prime of the violin is the scroll, a decorative carving that bears a resemblance to an old fashioned scrolled piece of paper. Below the scroll is the peg box, that supports four pegs used to tune the four separate strings in large increments. Beneath the strings is along blackboard known as the fingerboard, which helps a violinist place finger pressure onto the strings. The four strings are supported in air by the nut at the top of the fingerboard, and the bridge in the middle of the violin.
