There are a lot of skin cancers which are known while others are yet looking for the specific cause of it. A basal cell carcinoma is a cancer of the skin. It is the most common skin cancer. It is called a basal cell carcinoma as it originated in the basal layer of the skin. It only rarely metastasizes or spreads and is almost never fatal. Statistically almost a third of fair skinned people will develop a basal cell carcinoma. The superficial types are treated with chemicals and the deeper types are treated surgically. There are also treatments that are useful and some have permanent and long term treatment depending on the stage. Sometimes freezing or cryosurgery or radiotherapy is used. Most occur on sun exposed parts of the body. More importantly, skin biopsy is usually needed to confirm the diagnosis and to give such medicines depending on the result and its stages.
