Genital warts can actually be spread through skin to skin contact, which makes it different than other infections, which require contact with infected bodily fluids. They can also occur on areas of the genitals that are not covered by condoms. As well, some genital warts are so small that they are often unnoticeable and that can lead to people spreading them unknowingly. For women, regular screening is the best way to tell whether you have either of these infections. By getting yearly Pap smears, it is possible to check for these and other infections. This can prevent cervical cancer and pelvic inflammatory disease, two serious conditions that are often a result of chronic genital warts infection. If you are sexually active, you should also recognize the symptoms of each of these diseases so that you can recognize them in your partner.
